Bible Study 12/15

I'm so thirsty! Lots of MSG in those McDonald's shakers last week. We also spent time making our ornaments for the Christmas party. While being creative with our stockings, we each shared our sins that a prophet would rebuke us for. The point is to pray for one another on their struggles and to keep each other accountable. So read Niki's email and pray away.

Bible study is at my place as usual. Harvard and Jason will do dinner.

Bible Study 12/8

If a prophet came to you to rebuke you for a sin, what would that be?

That's the assignment for this week. Mull it over, we will share them as prayer requests.

Bible Study 12/1

Welcome back. Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving weekend. As I reflected upon the past year this weekend, I'm particularly thankful for the brothers and sisters with their continuing encouragement in my walk. I am thankful for my family. I'm thankful for the Lord's provisions. I'm especially thankful for multi-vitamins, as I'm certain beef doesn't contain all the nutrients a body needs. What are you thankful for?

Bible study will resume this week at my place. Jeremy and Tak will bring dinner.

Wild Card 11/17

Remember to follow and delight in the ways of Yahweh that we can draw from His word. For blessed is the one who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, but follows the wisdom of Yahweh.

We have wild card this week, and we'll be hanging out with the Fremont small group. Please meet at Siebel parking lot at 7:00pm to carpool to Josh's place.

Bible Study 11/10

In our study last week on Psalm 146, the Psalmist relates the imperative for us to become determine to praise Yahweh. Why? Because He is and shall forever be faithful; we can place our hope in Him when we're hopeless, and He will deliver us when we're helpless. Our determination to praise Yahweh comes from realizing that we cannot depend on the princes of this world. So reflect upon how Yahweh has helped you and be determined to praise Him and show others the imperative to praise through your praises.

Bible study is at my place. Justin and I will provide dinner.

Bible Study 11/3

We studied Psalm 138 last week, and the takeaway lesson is very simply stated: we pray to glorify God. So remember to pray for one another. (See the prayer requests, thanks Niki!)

Bible study is at my place this week. Sterling and Tim will provide food.

Bible Study 10/27

What did Harvard, Jason, Tak, and I learn from Psalm 142 last week?
When we're in our caves, feeling helpless and abandoned, we should come before God in prayer. We shall pray with sincere intensity, with specificity, and directly to God. Depend on Him and remember to praise Him knowing that He will not abandon us, but will deliver us from our pain.

What did Harvard, Jason, Tak, and I eat last week?
Lots of krispy fried chicken.

What did Harvard, Jason, Tak, and I do after Bible study?
Settlers. Harvard won.

Bible study is at my place this week. Jason and Niki will provide dinner.

Bible Study 10/20

Hope you all had a safe and relaxing weekend.

Quick recap from last week's study (Psalm 13): The Psalmist, David, sings a Psalm of Lament. He expresses his helpless state and feels abandoned by God. Yet he seeks enlightenment, through prayer, to understand God's will. He ends with remembrance and praises of God's lovingkindness.

Bible study will be at my place this week as we will continue on with Psalm. Harvard and Niki will provide dinner.

Bible Study 10/13

We didn't have Bible study last week, but we did have a lot of short ribs, bbq chicken, and other L&L goodies at Stone Manor. It was good...thanks for hooking us up Jerm! It was a good time of fellowship as we saw some people from the Fremont and SJ small groups. And Harvard rocked me in heads-up no-limit as I'm still seeking my first victory.

Bible study will be at my place this week as we will continue on with Psalm. Tak and Justin will provide dinner.

Bible Study 10/6

Missed you guys last week, but looks like you guys had a good study and had lots of pizza (see Tak's post below). We'll be continuing on with the Psalter this week. Some of us may think that the Psalms are pretty difficult. I know that I feel that way sometimes and same with other people I've talked to. But don't fret or be discouraged because these are also God's words just like Hebrews, Philippians, etc., and we'll get through these like all our previous studies.

This week's Bible study will be at my place. Justin and Tak will provide dinner.

Bible Study 9/29

Praise the LORD! That was the theme last week, when we started our new session in Psalm. The psalmist urges us to praise the Lord for His incomparable nature and His gacious acts of deliverance.

Pastor Josh listed several ways to demonstrate a life of praise of the LORD, so I'll just list them here again for those who have lost their studies or simply left them at my place. :)

a) Setting aside time each week to worship with other believers (usually Sunday's)
b) Telling another person about something God has done in your life or in another that you are excited about
c) Telling someone about what you've learned about God and who He is
d) Sharing with someone the good news about Jesus
e) Sharing with someone the work of God in your life ( your walk with God)...praising Him

Btw, how's everyone's Bible reading going? I'm assuming all of you are committing to reading it in a year. :) I'm less ahead now since I got lazy last week, but I'll make it up this week.

Bible study will be at Jason's this week, please bring your Bibles. We will be continuing with Psalm. Jason and Tim will provide dinner.

Funny Cartoon

During lunch, Harvard, Alan and myself brainstormed some ideas for blog content. Someone really smart came up with the fabulous idea of putting up comics! Here's one for today!

What do you think? It kinda looks like a KFC feast to me...

Bible Study 9/22

We finished up with Philippians last week where Paul thanks the Philippians for sharing in all of his troubles through their aid and gifts. He rejoices in their concern for him, but he doesn't necessarily require their gifts. Paul ultimately relies on the strength that God has given him and lives with contentment in any situation.

Bible study will be at my place this week, please bring your Bibles. I think we'll be starting with Psalm this week. Harvard and I will be providing the chicken smoothies for dinner...

Bible Study 9/15

Quick recap from last week: We continued on with Philippians where Paul encourages us to:

1. Rejoice in the Lord
2. Be gentle in spirit
3. Pray and not be anxious
4. Dwell on things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, and is of good repute

Bible study will be at my place this week, please bring your Bibles. We will be finishing up with the last study on Philippians. Niki and Sterling will be providing dinner.

Bible Study 9/8

Quick recap: We had worship and sharing last week. Thanks to Niki for running the show in the last minute and Sterling for leading worship. Remember to pray for one another, and I would appreciate it if you continue to pray for me as I continue to struggle with more family issues.

Bible study will be at my place this week, please bring your Bibles. We will be continuing on with Philippians. Jeremy and Cindy will be graciously providing dinner. There will be oral and written examinations this week, so memorize your Bible verses (Philippians 1:21 & Philippians 2:3-4, see sidebar).

Anyone want a Dell Printer?

I got a free printer as part of my laptop purchase. It's completely new and it's the Dell Photo Printer 720. I was wondering if anyone wanted it for FREE. It's not going for very much on ebay.

Meeting Changes

Just a reminder to everyone that the location, and topic for tonight's small group has changed. Please don't go to Jason's place =P

Bible Study 9/1

Quick recap from last week: We had an excellent study last week as we continued with Philippians. Paul encourages us to follow in Christ's example in the way we live. We should not concentrate on earthly things and earthly desires, since "our citizenship is in heaven", and we should keep our eyes on the heavenly prize.

We also had lots of KFC chicken and 1 delicious & 1 possibly delicious(?) "good-bye" cakes. We also discussed many important world events like Kanye's new album.

Bible study this week will be at Jason's place. We will be continuing with Philippians, so bring your Bible and study #6 (if you still have it). We may be continuing onto the second half. Jason and Grace will be providing dinner, probably not KFC but who knows. Remember to memorize your Bible verses (Philippians 1:21 & Philippians 2:3-4, see sidebar) for both oral and written examination. There will be an examination this week, but no punishment will be imposed since doing it for God should be motivation enough.

Some Business

Hi Everyone! Just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the bible study this past Thursday, especially since we all got to get involved in studying the word together. Amazingly, Brabus forgot yet once again to test us on the memory verse. Maybe he should get charged and we all should get free passes =P It is a little sad that we had a "good-bye" for so many people, though.

So.. is anyone up for lunch this coming week? LSF Lunch?

I posted the latest study on the side bar, so feel free to grab it if you like.

Bible Study 8/25

For those of you who couldn't make it to large group last week, you missed out on some excellent time of worship and fellowship. Pastor Josh gave a short message about who we really work for. The skits were entertaining; needless to say the San Mateo skit was more entertaining. We also had competitive Scategories, in which Niki and I dominated until we fell short in the finals. Perhaps Jeremy will be kind enough to post some pics.

We had a great turnout during our last small group, I think we had 13 people! So in fact, small group wasn't so small.

Bible study this week will be at Jason's place. We will be continuing with Philippians, so please remember to bring your Bible and the last study (part 6). We will be continuing onto the second half. Sterling and I will be providing dinner, it may possibly be KFC but no promises. Remember to memorize your Bible verses for both oral and written examination as the commissioner has imposed hefty fines.

It Begins...

Hey Everyone!

Welcome to the brand new LSF San Mateo small group blog site! Here we can share prayer requests, praises, and other things like random comments. In order to post to the site, you will need to be invited, so please send me an email if you're interested.

The upcoming schedule will be on the left, and I will be updating the sidebars with more links (including the studies themselves). That way, if you miss a meeting, you can still keep up.

Any suggestions for improvement?
